What is BILCO data reconciliation by mass balancing software?
BILCO is a software tool devoted to data reconciliation by material balance. Developed originally by BRGM, the French Geological Survey, BILCO offers an interactive, quick and accurate way of solving material balance problems in a vast number of applications beyond mineral processing. In just minutes, it provides solutions for complex flowsheet problems and data analysis.
What is data reconciliation by material balance?
Wherever there are relationships (theoretical or empirical) between measured parameters, there is a data reconciliation problem. Due to errors (analysis, sampling, scientific…), the measurements are inconsistent. The measurements do not verify the theoretical relationships: they are redundant and inconsistent.
The objective of data reconciliation is to find a set of estimates of the measured values which are as close as possible to the measurements and verify the theoretical relationships. When the relationships are conservation laws, such as material conservation laws, the problem can be solved using data reconciliation by material balance.
It is also possible to calculate the estimate errors from the measurement errors. If this calculation is used before sampling, it helps to define an efficient sampling strategy. If used after sampling, it helps to economic assessment. Due to redundancy, the estimates are always more or as accurate as the measurements. The accuracy improvement is quantified.
What types of applications can BILCO be used for?
BILCO allows data reconciliation of systems which can be modelled by a dependence graph, a data description in terms of “phases” and classification criteria, a set of multi-linear constraints corresponding to the conservation laws such as material conservation.
